Scholarship opportunity: Rare Book School at the University of Virginia

Summer 2025

Application Deadline: TBD Summer 2025

Thanks to the generosity of Ellen Michelson P'09, Bryn Mawr College is able to offer scholarship support for at least one student interested in attending a one-week summer course offered by the Rare Book School.  The Rare Book School provides continuing-education opportunities for students from all disciplines and skill levels to study the history of written, printed, and digital materials with leading scholars and professionals in the field. The School is based at the University of Virginia, but this summer all courses will be offered only online.   Courses this summer include “The History of the Book in China,” “The Printed Book in the West since 1800,” and “Provenance: Tracing Owners & Collections” among many other topics.

For additional information about the Rare Book School and for a list of courses being offered this summer, see the Rare Book School’s website: https://rarebookschool.org/

Eligibility for the scholarship depends upon being accepted into one of the Rare Book School courses. To be considered for the scholarship, please:

(1) Apply directly to the Rare Book School at https://rarebookschool.org/ by their designated deadline. The Rare Book School will notify applicants if they are accepted in the course in mid-March.
(2) Submit your information to Career and Civic Engagement Center through this form to notify us that you have applied directly to the school (this is what will make you eligible to receive the scholarship)
(3) Notify Katie Krimmel (kkrimmel@brynmawr.edu) and Jennifer Prudencio (jprudencio@brynmawr.edu) by April 15th if you are selected by the Rare Book School to attend a course. If more than one person is selected, we will use a random lottery to select the scholarship recipient.
